So I did not know almost anything about the tragic shooting and the subsequent turmoil leading to full scale London riots, till yesterday.
It was simply strange as I had my son out simply to our local high street, to be challenged by looters going full at it at Argos. It was surreal and people moving all over the place, getting whatever they could. It almost was like I went to nap and woke up in a zombie movie!
I was then challenged by 2 people in hoods having a scarf to cover face, who apparently were keen on my watch, they thankfully got distracted and I simply had a job on getting my 2.5 year old (without his stroller) for safety. When the two guys (could not recognize their faces) noticed I was not there, they started to look for me! I was hiding behind a recycle bin at the back of KFC! Just across the road.
Oh man, and also explaining to my boy that he could not stroll and I had to hold him and jog was a problem, house was too far so ended up going to a mates residence, knocked on his door and welcomed me in. It was only after that I was told about the London riots. Without police in picture, it was a few hours waiting before thing settled down enough for me and my son to head off home. Thankfully not hurt and in one piece.
While I really really do understand the shooting of this person, loss of a life is indeed sad. To making it worse are circumstances surrounding his dying is also unclear, as apparently did not fire the shot? This kind of violence seems to be heading a bridge too far. I saw an old lady being mugged. I felt angry as I could not do anything about it, I had my little son with me and there were 5 guys/boys encircling this poor lady. I wonder just how the looter would feel if it was their mother or grandmother?
What I really fail to understand is that surely parents of these kids know that they are going out, why not prevent them? What are you getting from wrecking shops apart from the freebies? Personally being put in a situation in which I had to worry about safety of my son was basically really an eye opener. Why is police not arresting these individuals?
These are all question running through my mind, as we in the UK are just not able to comprehend any mass acts of violence. London riots really have shown how seriously our kids need discipline and people that understand THEM. Right now it just seems that people are getting their Christmas purchasing done early!
